Schools including Mount Gambier North Primary reported a high rate of attendance of remote learning. Meanwhile online learning from home continued through to February 11 for year 2 to 6 and year 9 to 11 students.įor those students that remained at home, remote learning packs were made available. The first two weeks of face-to-face learning was available for preschool, reception, year 1, 7, 8 and 12 students. Under the state government’s return-to-school plan, schools opened on January 31 but only for vulnerable students and children of essential workers. He said staff tried to run the initial days back as normal as possible with the leadership team working with staff online. “It has been fantastic to see students at home connecting with their classes, as well as seeing how adaptable they can be when multiple challenges have been thrown at them,” he said. Reidy Park Primary School principal Craig Scerri said the way schools started the term had not been ideal, however he commended the support of the school community. The staggered start was vastly different than years gone by with some year levels welcomed back for face-to-face learning, while others remained home for online learning. The way schools across the state had to start term one was met with multiple challenges as they tackled the hybrid model of schooling. School was back to “normal” yesterday or as normal as possible given the effects of COVID-19 will continue to dictate how school communities are welcomed back on site.
